Food Fight Ends With Ten High School Students Getting Arrested

Westhill High School

Authorities in Stamford, Connecticut have arrested ten students from Westhill High School for their role in an "out of control" food fight that left a teacher and school resource officer injured. Police say that the students planned the fight ahead of time and used social media to promote it. Despite school officials best efforts to stop the fight, hundreds of students participated in the massive food fight which quickly spiraled into a dangerous situation.

A school resource officer was hit in the head with a full can of soda while she tried to put an end to the brawl which saw students "throwing eggs, water and soda cans" at each other. She had to be taken to the hospital where she was treated for a concussion and laceration on her head. A teacher at the school was also injured after being trampled by the students as they ran outside to join in the massive melee.

It took 24 police officers to contain the chaotic scene and put an end to the massive brawl the developed.

The students, who were between the ages of 15 and 17 are facing charges of rioting in the first degree, breach of peace, reckless endangerment, and assault on a police officer, which is a felony. Their identities have not been released because they are all minors.

The school announced that they are making changes to ensure that something like this does not happen again in the future. Those changes include closing the courtyard where the food fight began during lunch and instituting a zero-tolerance policy for students who skip class.
