TEA Takeover Of HISD Moves Forward

Education

The Texas Education Agency is moving ahead with its takeover of the Houston ISD. The agency notified the HISD Board of Trustees last week of its plan to appoint a board of state managers and a superintendent, largely because of ongoing accreditation problems. Leaders with the Houston Federation of Teachers held a news conference on Monday to call the move a politically motivated power grab. The state agency is holding several meetings this week to explain to the public what's going on.
