Southwest Considering Roughly 6,800 Layoffs Next Spring

Southwest Airlines is looking at involuntary furloughs for the first time in its nearly 50-year history. The Dallas-based carrier says more than 68-hundred employees could be laid off in March or April. That includes pilots, flight attendants, customer service and operation staff. Southwest has been asking labor groups to work out a deal as a way to avoid any furloughs. Airlines have been struggling this year because of the coronavirus pandemic's impact on travel.
