WICHITA – Hooks right-hander Adrian Chaidez is the Texas Pitcher of the Week for August 1-7, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.

This is the second consecutive TL weekly award for Corpus Christi, as outfielder Justin Dirden was tabbed as the loop’s top hitter for July 25-31. The Astros promoted Dirden to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

Chaidez fanned eight against three hits and four walks in nine scoreless innings over two starts opposite the Springfield Cardinals last week. The 23-year-old from South Gate, CA earned a victory August 2 by allowing just two hits in five innings of work. Chaidez finished the outing by retiring 11 of the last 12 Cardinals to bat. He faced the minimum on Sunday thanks to a pair of double plays.

Chaidez is 4-1 with a 4.75 ERA 16 games (eight starts) for the Hooks. The UCLA product boats a 1.26 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over this last three assignments. Chaidez was named by the Astros as their minor league pitcher of the month for April while toiling with the Asheville Tourists.

Right-handed pitcher Jimmy Endersby (June 20-26) and infielder Enmanuel Valdez (May 16-22) join Chaidez and Dirden as 2022 Hooks to earn a Texas League weekly award. Valdez and Dirden were also named the circuit’s top hitter in May and July, respectively.
