Oakland, California is mulling a new concept to help with the homeless population: housing individuals on a cruise ship.
Supervisor Rebecca Kaplan said that she had mentioned exploring housing on a large vessel at a previous city council meeting.
Since then, two cruise ship companies have contacted her about making it a reality, one ship could easily house up to 1,000 people.
Kaplan says she is looking into possibly docking a ship or two at the Port of Oakland as soon as January.
