A Dallas police officer is dead and two others are injured following a shooting last night. The officers were shot during an exchange of gunfire near the Oak Cliff Community Center at around 10 p.m. The suspect was later killed following a chase that ended in Lewisville. One of the injured officers is reportedly in critical condition.
The Dallas Police Department says it all began when they received a call around 10 p.m. about an officer in distress near the Oak Cliff Community Center on Ledbetter Road near Marsalis Avenue.
When they arrived, they found an officer in his marked patrol vehicle had been shot. The officers then spotted the suspect and exchanged gunfire. Two of the officers were wounded, before the suspect fled.
The suspect led officers on a high-speed chase from Oak Cliff to Lewisville. When he was stopped, he still had a rifle and was shot by officers. The suspect died at the scene.
"Our department is hurting. We have officers who are injured who are in the hospital and we lost one of our own. We ask tonight and this morning for the thoughts and prayers of our city, for not only those who are recovering in the hospital but for our fallen, for their family, and for their loved ones, and for us as a department as well," said Dallas Police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman.
