Students in the Los Angeles Unified School District can now access ED, an artificial intelligence app designed to boost students’ academic success.
ED, which launched on Wednesday, can wake students up when it’s time for school, let them know when their bus will arrive, remind students of class assignments and projects, and even list what’s on the lunch menu for the day. In addition, it also provides students with a tutor to help with AP, SAT, and ACT classes or tests.
ED is part of an effort to bring full academic recovery from the pandemic within two years. Officials say the chatbot technology, which can communicate in 100 languages, is currently available at the 100 schools the district has deemed as its most fragile.
The launch, while mostly positive, was also met with some security concerns. The district states that the app was developed in collaboration with federal security companies and is programmed to filter out any type of threatening content.
LA Unified believes the app will help students reach new academic potential and prepare them for the future of ever-changing technology.
