How will the Media Spin the Trump/Kim Summit?

Did Trump actually de-nuke N Korea? Sure sounded like it at his press conference. I hope you watched it. You and I were witnessing history........or am I popping up more hope?

Maybe his optimism wasn’t so unfounded? President Trump said going in that we'd know soon if a deal with North Korea is possible. Within hours of his historic sit-down…he and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un were putting pen to paper in front of a throng of reporters. What exactly have they agreed to? According to images of the signed document posted online:

The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new U.S.-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.“The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.”Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work towards the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Trump and Kim started off their summit by meeting one-on-one with only their interpreters in tow, and then had a larger meeting that included officials from both sides. As the President sees it, the process to denuclearize the North will begin “very quickly” – though there are no firm answers on how or when that will begin.

For their part, China is praising the results. In a statement, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, says the most important “having equal talks has important and positive meaning, and is creating a new history.”

What hasn’t been addressed? The North’s atrocious record of human rights abuses. In fact, they weren’t even brought up. I think I get it....de nuke first. It's on every body's mind. Dare I say it? Hopes are high. “We had a historic meeting and decided to leave the past behind,” Mr. Kim said as they signed a document. “The world will see a major change.” Time will tell. For his part, Mr. Trump had not commented at press time.

Meanwhile, there have been the more circus-y moments. Aside from Kim taking in the sights surrounded by his security brigade – and taking a selfie with the Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs - former NBA star Dennis Rodman is in Singapore for the big summit. While Rodman is not involved in the talks (as far as I can tell). He said he came to support the historic summit.....Dennis. The Worm.
