Assistant City Manager Achieves Career Milestone

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mrs. Sylvia Carrillo-Treviño, Assistant City Manager of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City/County Management Association. Mrs. Carrillo-Treviño is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

“It has been a goal since the beginning,” Carrillo-Treviño said. “It joins me into a group of professionals who value integrity and value public service above all else. It’s an elite group that requires continuing education, and a pledge to the ethical values the profession espouses.”

Mrs. Carrillo-Treviño is currently one of two Latinas in the State of Texas who hold the ICMA-CM designation.

“There are very few women in the profession to begin with; something we are trying to change,” she said. “I’m proud of my heritage and hope that I can inspire other women to join me in public service.”

ICMA’s mission is to advance professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics and by increasing the proficiency of appointed chief administrative officers, assistant administrators, and other employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization’s 13,000 members in 27 countries also include educators, students, and other local government employees.

To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field; and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.

Mrs. Carrillo-Treviño is qualified by more than 16 years of professional local government executive experience. Prior to her appointment in 2017 as Assistant City Manager, she served as City Manager of the City of Aransas Pass.

Highlights of Mrs. Carrillo-Treviño’s ICMA membership include serving on ICMA’s Governmental Policy Committee, Research and Policy Editorial Advisory Board, Sustainable Communities Committee, as well as being a presenter on several topics including Council-Manager relations at several national conferences.

Mrs. Carrillo-Treviño has also made significant contributions to several other organizations including the Rotary Club of Aransas Pass and is a strong supporter of the Master of Public Administration program at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. She is also a mentor to many women seeking a career in local government.
