Stuff from the Island Moon

THE STORY.... The Corpus Christi City Council on Tuesday approved funds to redesign the Packery Jetties. With a unanimous vote the council allocated a total of $600,000 to hire a consultant to do a redesign of the jetties to avoid a repeat of the damage done by Hurricane Harvey. An assessment of the damage and repair options was presented to the Island Strategic Action Committee in November 2018 with price tags ranging from $7.5 million to $13.5 million. According to information presented to the council Tuesday “repair concepts will be developed for two alternatives; one to return the project to its approximate pre-storm conditions, and another to upgrade the project to an improved condition that is more resilient to future storm impacts. The City will procure a design consultant through the RFQ process, and the selected firm will prepare the construction plans. Post design, construction will be procured.”
